Authorities are investigating a Friday morning fire that claimed the life of a woman in Metairie.
"Around 8:40 a.m., fire personnel and members of the JPSO responded to a report of fire at a single-family home in the 800 block of N. Sibley St.," said Sgt. Brandon Veal of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
"After the fire was extinguished, an unresponsive elderly female was located on the floor inside the residence. She was suffering from fire-related injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene," he said.
Veal says the initial investigation leads them to believe that the fire was accidental.
Investigators are working to determine the fire's exact cause.
