14-year-old arrested for carjacking, caught with his mother's gun

NOPD

New Orleans Police say a 14-year-old has been arrested in a carjacking that happened last month. Police today announced they arrested the teen last week, and caught him with his mom's gun in his possession.

"The victim was stopped in his vehicle at the intersection when three unknown male subjects approached the vehicle," police said about the November 30 incident. "One subject produced a firearm and ordered the victim at gunpoint to exit the vehicle. The victim complied and the suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle."

Police say patrol officers on Dec. 2 spotted an individual who matched the description they had of one of the suspects.

"Officers made an investigatory stop on the juvenile male subject and, during a search, discovered a pink handgun in the juvenile’s possession that was found to be registered to the juvenile’s mother," said police. "The juvenile was taken to the Second District station and questioned where, during an interview with the juvenile and his guardian, the juvenile admitted his role in the armed robbery."

Police arrested the 14-year-old, whom they booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on counts of armed robbery and juvenile in possession of a firearm.

The other two suspects remain at large.
