A would-be good Samaritan learned the hard way that good deeds don’t go unpunished after he was shot in Terrebonne Parish.
Sheriff’s deputies say that shooting happened just before 4 p.m. Friday at the Sam’s Club store in Houma.
According to a sheriff’s office spokesman, the good Samaritan was trying to stop a purse snatching when the suspect shot the him. The suspect then ran away from the scene.
A short time later, deputies booked Jacob Luke Jr. on charges of armed robbery, armed robbery with the use of a firearm, aggravated battery, and attempted first degree murder.
According to the sheriff's office, investigators developed evidence that also linked Heather Luke of Chauvin to the crime. She was booked on similar charges.
The good Samaritan remains in the hospital. Deputies say his condition is stable.
The victims of the armed robbery also suffered minor injuries.
