A Louisiana family’s vacation ended in tragedy Sunday afternoon in Mississippi when their 2-year-old child tragically drowned in a hotel swimming pool.
The child, who was not identified per standard pediatric death policy by Harrison County’s coroner’s office, was transported to Merit Health System before being pronounced dead, coroner Brian Switzer told the Sun Herald.
The tragic fatality occurred at the Margaritaville Resort Biloxi, and a lifeguard was posted on duty at the time of the child’s drowning, according to a quote in the Sun Herald from Biloxi Police Department Capt. Milton Houseman.
Resort management said its employees were “deeply saddened by this tragic accident” in a statement to the Sun Herald, adding, “We are heartbroken and our prayers are with the parents and family in this difficult time.”
WBRZ reported that the family hailed from Port Allen, La.
