With the start of the holiday season around the corner, families are starting to plan what dishes will dress the holiday table.

There are several dishes that can be made out of the meats and vegetables from right here in Louisiana, for a homegrown bayou to table experience.

Just ask Louisiana Ag Commissioner Mike Strain.

"We've got the sweet potatoes and pecans (Puh-KAWNS) you need for your pies, and the cane sugar for your syrups. And don't forget the fresh catfish."

As you go about planning your holiday meals, somethings are given like turkey, pies, and casseroles. But what about gumbo?

"Shrimp, crabs, and crawfish are available for a great seafood gumbo or even some etouffee."

Right now the cost to make a pot of seafood gumbo with crawfish, shrimp, and crab averages about $55.

However, no matter what you decide to serve, Commissioner Strain has one ask, "Whether you go to the grocery store or farmer's market, make sure to buy certified Louisiana local."
