A veteran of the U.S. Air Force recently cashed in big, thanks to the Florida Lottery.

Kerim Akel, 67, played the 500X The Cash scratch-off and uncovered a $1 million jackpot.

Akel took the one-time, lump-sum payout of his prize, which totals $820,000, and claimed it at the state’s lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.

The retired Air Force electrical engineer told officials he bought the lucky scratch-off at a Publix in the Navarre area. The store will receive a $2,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Overall odds of winning the game are 4.5 to 1, according to the lottery. The game’s top prize is $25 million.
