A deputy U. S. Marshal is dead and a suspect is in custody after federal authorities say that suspect shot and killed the marshal while he tried to serve a warrant.
The incident happened around 3 p.m. Monday at a home on Rutland Road in Alexandria.
Authorities say the suspect engaged local, state, and federal authorities in a standoff after the shooting. Police eventually arrested the suspect, who was then transported to a hospital for treatment for injuries he suffered during the incident.
Police have not released the suspect’s name.
The U. S. Marshal’s Service confirmed the deputy marshal’s death, but the agency did not identify the deceased deputy.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is the lead agency investigating the case. Louisiana State Police and the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office are also investigating.
