The man suspected of opening fire on two New Orleans Police Officers from the back of pedicab on Friday is now in jail.

Donnell Linwood Hassell had been hospitalized since encountering a medical issue during his capture by NOPD officers on Friday, blocks from the crime scene.

Hassell was released from University Medical Center Saturday night.

He was promptly taken into custody and booked into the Orleans Parish Jail.

Hassell is facing two counts of Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer.

A bail hearing has yet to be held.

Hassell is suspected of opening fire on a New Orleans Police cruiser carrying two officers as the vehicle was stopped at the corner of Royal and St. Philip.

Many shots were fired into the front and windshield of the cruiser, with a one bullet hit four-year veteran Trevor Abney in the cheek below the left eye and glass fragments struck 15-year veteran Brooke Duncan IV.

Abney remains hospitalized with the bullet lodged in his skull.

If convicted on both counts, Hassell could face upwards of 50-years in prison for each count.
