A Slidell couple is in the hospital after the SUV they were traveling in was struck by an Amtrak train in Slidell.
The crash happened around 10 a.m. Monday at the crossing on Gause Boulevard near Front Street.
According to police, the driver of the SUV accidentally shifted into park while crossing the tracks and as the train was approaching. The driver was unable to get off the tracks before impact. Police say there's no evidence the driver drove around the crossing arms.
The couple in the SUV suffered minor injuries. No one on the train was injured.
The Slidell Police, Amtrak Police, and Norfolk Southern Police Departments are all investigating.
