With the huge increase in carjackings in New Orleans; many have happened as people pump gas, others occur when drivers stop at red lights and another bunch have taken place after a crash.
Monday night a 31-year-old man says he was driving his Land Rover on Downman Road when someone crashed into the back of the SUV.
"Victim driving northbound when he was rear-ended by suspects’ vehicle," an initial police report describes. "Suspects exited their vehicle armed with guns and demanded victim move away from his vehicle. Victim fled on foot and suspects fled in victim's 2016 Blue Land Rover."
It happened a 11:42pm in the 6900 block Downman Rd.
Another carjacking was reported earlier in the evening, just before 8:30pm in the 4100 block South Carrollton Ave.
"Victim exiting her vehicle when armed suspect approached and demanded victim’s vehicle. Victim complied and suspect fled in victim's 2019 Red Nissan Altima, which was later recovered."
There has been a more than doubling of the number of carjackings so far this year compared to last year with a 120% increase.
