If you’re heading out to catch one of the nine parades rolling through the metro area this weekend, the forecast has one clear message: it’s going to be cold everywhere.

LSU Health climatologist Barry Keim says no matter which parade route you choose; north shore, south shore, uptown, downtown, there’s no escaping the arctic blast.

“There is no oasis,” Keim says, noting that temperature differences across the region will be minimal and all signs point to freezing conditions.

Temperatures will begin falling off through Friday before plummeting on Saturday, with Sunday offering little in the way of a rebound.

Keim recommends bundling up with layers and preparing for bitter cold if you plan to stand along the route for any length of time.

If there’s any good news to eke out, it’s this: no precipitation is expected.

That means no icy roads, no snow, and no slick conditions, just cold, dry air for parade-goers.

And while this weekend may feel more like Mardi Freeze than Mardi Gras, Keim reminds us of one Louisiana weather certainty; it will change. With plenty of carnival still ahead, warmer parade days are likely waiting just around the corner.
