Armed robbery suspect shot while resisting arrest

Jefferson Parish Sheriffs are investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred in Marrero. Louis Alexander, 50, was shot by deputies during the apprehension and is currently undergoing medical treatment at an area hospital.

Over the past five weeks, JPSO detectives have been investigating four business armed robberies and one residential burglary involving Alexander. During these investigations, multiple weapons have been recovered that were believed to be used during the incidents.

Around 3:30pm Thursday, detectives in the 800 block of Avenue B were preparing to serve a search warrant at Alexander’s residence.  Alexander exited his home and spotted our detectives.  He immediately fled the area on foot.  JPSO detectives pursued Alexander before setting a perimeter in the area where he was last seen.  JPSO responded with a canine, drone, and air support divisions to assist in finding Alexander.

The coordinated search for Alexander continued over several hours.

Detectives ultimately located Alexander under a house in the 4000 block of School Drive near the intersection with Farmington Drive.

During the apprehension, Alexander attempted to flee and a deputy opened fire at him.

Alexander was hit multiple times and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Additional information will be released as the investigation allows.
