River flooding is the big concern through Monday for communities north of the lake.
In Tangipahoa Parish, emergency management director Dawson Primes says the Tangipahoa River is going to crest at 21 feet:
"At 21 feet, water will be in homes along Hwy. 445 and Hwy. 443. Hwy. 445 will be underwater and closed from Hwy. 190 to Interstate 12," said Primes, and he says it will be that way for days. "It's going to stay at that crest through Monday, and it'll start gradually going down on Monday, so this water's going to be here for a little bit."
Primes says this flood will crest about six feet lower than the floods of 2016.
St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper says their rivers will also flood, but it also won't be the worst they've seen.
"The rivers are swelling here in northwestern St. Tammany up in the Folsom area, and the Bogue Falaya, too," said Cooper. "The rivers will get out of their banks, but not to major flood stage."
