Three tornadoes caused damage in three parts of southeastern Louisiana as storms generated by Tropical Storm Arthur pounded the region early Thursday.

National Weather Service investigators say each twister rated as EF1 strength on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which runs from 0 (winds 65-85 mph) to a maximum of 5 (winds of 200 mph or more).

The NWS believes the twister that struck Houma had maximum winds of 95 mph. A tornado of the same strength also touched down in Avondale.

A third tornado, believed to have top winds of 90 mph, hit Bridge City before moving on to New Orleans.

The Houma tornado lasted all of a minute, and the Avondale tornado was on the ground for only two minutes.

The third tornado lasted for 16 minutes.
