It may be Groundhog Day, but the zoo in New Orleans called on some other critters to tell us what the weather will be like in the coming weeks.
"Three young capybara born in 2025 at Audubon Zoo are doing the official weather forecast this year. In true New Orleans style, they made their pick by showing interest in food… either gumbo for more winter ahead or snoballs for an early spring."
Vice President of Communications Melissa Lee says the rodents were in agreement.
"The capybara trio made their prognostication unanimously, but not before carefully considering their options since both are really tasty. Initially, they seemed pretty set on gumbo weather staying around a while longer, but in the end…they decided snoball season is on the way! So spring is just around the corner."
She says this was the first time these animals had a chance to forecast the weather.
"These three young capybara are following in the footsteps of their parents, who made the weather forecast last year. The pups are named Tiana, Charlotte, and Louis."
They are named after characters in the New Orleans-set Disney film “Princess and the Frog.”
