A Ponchatoula woman is dead after a highway crash that Louisiana State Police says was caused by impaired driving. Troopers say it is not the suspect's first DWI incident.
The wreck happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on Hwy. 1085 near Alice Street in Madisonville.
According to investigators, 47-year-old Jessica Cannatella was driving south on 1085 when an SUV driven by 38-year-old Holly Williams, traveling north, crossed the center line and smashed head-on into Cannatella's vehicle.
Troopers say Cannatella, who was not wearing a seat belt, was seriously injured and died after arriving at the hospital.
Williams, whom authorities say was properly restrained, suffered moderate injuries and was also hospitalized. So was a front seat passenger in Williams' vehicle.
"During the investigation, Williams showed signs of impairment," said trooper Marc Gremillion. "Upon her release from the hospital, Williams will be booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Facility."
Charges against Williams include vehicular negligent homicide, vehicular negligent injuring, and third offense driving while intoxicated.
