Christopher Rice, the son of famous New Orleans-born author Anne Rice, shared a touching tribute to his mother, announcing on Saturday that she had passed.
Christopher Rice, who is also an author, posted the tribute on his mother’s public Facebook page. Anne Rice was known for responding and interacting with her fans on the Facebook page.

“This is Anne’s son Christopher, and it breaks my heart to bring you this sad news,” he wrote in the post. “Earlier tonight, Anne passed away due to complications resulting from a stroke.”
Anne Rice was 80 and came to fame when she published her book “Interview with a Vampire.” Her son did not share in the post when she suffered the stroke.
“She left us almost nineteen years to the day my father, her husband Stan, died,” Christopher Rice continued in the post. “The immensity of our family’s grief cannot be overstated. As my mother, her support for me was unconditional — she taught me to embrace my dreams, reject conformity and challenge the dark voices of fear and self-doubt.”
While she had moved to California years ago, her home, the “Anne Rice Mansion,” remains a staple point in the city and is a well-known tourist attraction.
Christopher Rice also shared in the post that he sat by her bedside in her final hours. He added that his mother would be interred in the family’s mausoleum at Metairie Cemetery in a “private ceremony.” However, in 2022 there will be a public celebration of her life held in New Orleans.
“This event will be open to the public and will invite the participation of her friends, readers and fans who brought her such joy and inspiration throughout her life,” he wrote in the post.
