Louisiana State Police and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office say  a social media post claiming immigration authorities struck and killed a pedestrian in Metairie is false.

“No such incident occurred anywhere or at anytime in Jefferson Parish,” said Sgt. Brandon Veal, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. “The JPSO investigated an incident involving a female pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle driven by an adult male who remained on the scene. This crash did not involve any federal immigration authority.”

Veal went on to say that the post caused unnecessary confusion and panic.

Louisiana State Police asks the public to rely on verified information from partner agencies and not unconfirmed social media posts.
