A security incident at the Louisiana Attorney General's Office on Wednesday was a false alarm triggered by what the Attorney General's Office calls "secondhand information."

According to a press release sent by a spokesperson for Attorney General Liz Murrell, that secondhand report claimed that a person "suffering from emotional distress" and possibly armed with a rifle was headed to the Livingston Building, where the attorney general's office is house. According to the spokesperson, that caused authorities to initiate security protocols at the facility.

"Agents then located the subject near the State Capitol," the spokesperson said. "He was very cooperative and just wanted to speak to agents about a situation and to file a complaint. The subject was then interviewed by our office."

Authorities released the man after they determined that the man was in legal possession of his firearm and violated no laws.

"We aired on the side of caution and operations are back to normal at the Louisiana Department of Justice," the spokesperson said.
