New Orleans Police say a driver hit a woman riding a bicycle shortly before noon on Easter Sunday.
“NOPD's Traffic Fatality Unit is investigating a traffic fatality at the intersection of South Clairborne and Lafitte Street,” Public Relations Specialist Karen Boudrie said in a news release. “An unknown female… was attempting to cross the street when she was struck by a vehicle.”
Witnesses say the driver in the lane closest to the victim stopped to let the bicyclist cross, but the driver in the second lane did not stop, hit her and she died.
“EMS was called and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
The investigation continues.
"Both drivers remained on scene. Traffic investigators say the driver of the vehicle that struck the victim did not appear to be impaired or speeding. Therefore, no citations have been issued at this time."
