Army Corps of Engineers Lt. Col. Robert Warren Green told WWL’s Tommy Tucker that the Blue Roof Program will install its 10,000th roof sometime Tuesday. That’s about a quarter of all validated requests for a tarp.

“We are confident that we are going to meet our initial goal which is to have all of the roofs, or all of the requests for roofs, installed within the first 60 days,” said Green.
Green said about 40,000 requests have been validated.

“Right now our contractors are averaging about 1,000 roofs a day,” said Green.

On September 16th Green told Tucker the Corps had received “about 55,000 requests”. If you applied to get tarped but had a private contractor take care of the installation before a Corps contractor arrived, give the Corps a call.

“If you were able to find a solution through your insurance company or other means, please do cancel so we can get you off that list so that roof can go to someone else,” said Green who warned those still waiting to be warry of scams. “This is a free federal program so if anybody is asking for any money to install a roof on your house this is not part of the Blue Roof Program.”

The deadline to apply for the Blue Roof Program is Thursday, September 30th. You can call 1-888-ROOF-BLU to file an application.
