Authorities say the dead woman found in the Tangipahoa river was about 2,500 miles from home.

“The deceased female found in the Independence area Saturday has been identified,” Public Information Officer Ashley Rodrigue posted. ”The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office confirms a 64-year-old from Washington state is the individual located by a fisherman along the bank of the Tangipahoa River near the Highway 40 bridge.”

She says the woman’s name is being withheld until family can be notified.

“Preliminary results indicate the woman died of natural causes. There were no signs of trauma, and initial testing showed no evidence of drugs in her system.”

Rodrigue says that detectives have not determined why the woman was here.

“They believe she was living out of her car, which was found parked along the highway near where she was found.”
