A broken pipe has led to an advisory for part of New Orleans East to boil water before drinking it.
“Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO), in consultation with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has issued a precautionary boil water advisory,” according to a news release.
It is in the area bounded by:
- Lincoln Beach Blvd (former Hayne) from Berg to Paris Road
- Paris Road from Lincoln Beach Blvd to N I-10 Service Road
- N I-10 Service Road from Paris Road to Camberley Drive
- Camberley Drive from N I-10 Service Road to Morrison
- Berg from Morrison to Lincoln Beach Blvd
Authorities say that water pressures in this area fell below 20 pounds per square inch due to a watermain break.
“Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans crews are responding and are working to make the repair and get water pressure back to normal. SWBNO will notify residents when testing has begun.”
Officials say that residents in the affected areas are advised to use bottled or boiled tap water to drink, cook, clean food or brush teeth until further notice.
“Residents with compromised immune systems should also use safe water to wash hands, shower or bathe. “
INSTRUCTIONS FOR BOILING WATER
Bring water to a rolling boil in a clean container for a full minute. If the water has a flat taste afterward, shake it in a bottle or pour it from one container to another.
