The Biden administration’s student debt relief program has notched a couple of early legal victories. Yesterday, the Supreme Court denied an emergency appeal from a Wisconsin taxpayer group challenging the loan forgiveness program. Separately, a federal judge in Missouri denied a request by a group of Republican state leaders to block the program. The judge in St. Louis said GOP officials representing six states didn’t have standing to challenge the loan forgiveness because they couldn’t show they had been harmed by the Biden program.
The market for liquefied natural gas carriers is being squeezed as exports grow. The daily spot rate for an LNG tanker reached an astronomical $450,000 this week, up sixfold from the start of the year. And brokers expect rates on main routes such as the Gulf Coast to Northern Europe to reach still higher this month under strong demand and high gas prices.
Futures are down after stocks closed lower yesterday. The Dow Industrials fell 90, the NASDAQ lost 65 and the S&P 500 was down 29.
