Here come the clearance sales. Retail analysts say e-retailers that specialize in larger goods like furniture are lowering their prices. Sweatpants, and other casual clothes that were a staple of work-from-home, are going to be on clearance this summer. Retailers that sell their own lines of clothing and décor, such as Gap, could be especially inclined to mark down their inventory, because they can’t pass the cost onto anyone else. TVs and laptops are also likely to be on sale.
The world's ocean freight shipping companies recently called on international maritime authorities to exclude pollution that their vessels spew in bad weather from new regulations, a condition that would apply almost a third of the time in the Atlantic. But that effort has failed. Four trade groups had complained that the new rules would penalize ships that have to sail in rough conditions, which burns more fuel and produces more carbon dioxide.
