Bystander shot at Houma Mardi Gras parade, a 15-year-old is charged says police

A 15-year-old is in police custody following a shooting at a parade in Houma which left an innocent bystander with a gunshot wound.

According to Houma police, the shooting happened about 11:00 p.m. Saturday at the Aquarius parade in Houma.


A fight between two groups broke out at the parade then someone started shooting and the crowd involved in the fight scattered on foot.

Houma Police say the victim was not involved in the altercation. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

A report from Houma Police says, “While investigating the incident, Houma Police located a 15 yr. old armed with a semi-automatic pistol. Through investigation, Houma Police detectives were able to develop information that he was connected to the shooting.”

The teen was charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Illegal Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center to be booked.

The investigation is ongoing as Houma Police detectives continue interviews and gathering evidence.
