Poll shows Cantrell approval at 30 percent; Cantrell refuses to accept results

The recent New Orleans Crime Coalition Poll included a question asking respondents about their approval of New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell. The mayor's approval rating came in at just 30 percent.

The poll surveyed 800 adults and has a margin of error of ± 3.46 percent.

However, when asked about the results, Mayor Cantrell claimed the poll was not accurate.

"I don't embrace at all, it's not accurate at all and not only that it's a disservice, it's a disservice to the men and women that show up despite the negativity, the 800 people who responded to that out of 340,000 people in this city, in addition to the visitor population, so I do not embrace that at all," Cantrell said.

Ron Faucheux of  Faucheux Strategies, LLC, conducted the poll on behalf of the Crime Coalition.

"The mayor's numbers have come down significantly in the last couple of years. You may remember two years ago, we had her job rating at 62 percent," Faucheux told WWL's Newell Normand. "But then last year, her approval rating fell to 44 percent, and this year it's now fallen again to 30 percent. So it's been a big fall."
