New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell today responded to allegations that she had a sexual relationship with the NOPD officer who was assigned to be her body guard.
"First of all, that is a personal matter as it relates to the Vappie family," the mayor said when asked today about the reports.
"It's none of my business and quite frankly none of yours," the mayor scolded.
Divorce papers filed by Officer Jeffrey Vappie's estranged wife allege an affair between the officer and a person identified as "Mrs. L.C." Dates of the affair alleged in the legal filing match up to dates when Vappie was with Cantrell at the city-owned apartment in the Lower Pontalba building off of Jackson Square.
Cantrell dismissed it as rumor-mongering.
"Based on the false allegations that come my way, by the time I finish this job, literally, you know, accused of sleeping with half the city of New Orleans, both genders and all pronouns," she said.
