Is New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell feeling the pressure of the recall campaign? Cantrell today will attend a global conference of mayors by remote, instead of appearing in person in Argentina.
Just days after announcing she would be attending the C40 World Mayors Summit in Buenos Aires in person, the mayor's office announced she would connect virtually, instead. Political analyst Clancy DuBos says it will take more than one action to change the minds of anyone thinking of signing the recall petition.
"I don't know if it's pressure from the recall movement, or she's just getting the message that citizens want and expect their mayor to be here when the city faces so many big problems," said DuBos.
DuBos says what prompted the recall movement was people became tired of seeing a pattern in the mayor's governance.
"The reason for the recall, in most people's eyes, is a pattern of things the mayor has done or failed to do, over the course of several years," DuBos explained. "Basically the mayor needs to change how she governs, because people are not satisfied with how she governs and they're not satisfied with the results they're getting."
