New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell today announced that she is following the new CDC guidance on masks, and says it is permissible for fully-vaccinated individuals to no longer wear masks.
"Fully-vaccinated" means two weeks since receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, or two weeks since the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
The mayor said there are still going to be some places where masks are required, and businesses may still require all employees or customers to wear a mask.
"City government buildings, K-12 schools, health care facilities, and on public transportation networks, you will still be required to mask up," said Cantrell.
Mayor Cantrell said she hopes serves as a carrot to encourage the unvaccinated to go seek out the shots.
"Those individuals who are not vaccinated are at a greater risk," said Cantrell. "Now is the time to get vaccinated."
