Hours after former New Orleans 911 director Tyrell Morris bonded out of jail following his indictment on malfeasance in office and other charges, Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued a sparse statement about the matter.
Morris was indicted on Thursday on charges connected to a 2023 crash in which he wrecked a city-owned vehicle. He surrendered to authorities on Friday and bonded out later in the day.
In a statement, a City Hall spokesperson repeated a statement Cantrell made when Morris was first accused of wrongdoing.
"When asked at a past press event to provide a comment on this investigation, Mayor Cantrell stated that every person should have the right to due process, as she has done regarding other review and investigations," the statement said. "The Mayor respects the judicial process as it moves to a conclusion under the law and the Office of Mayor will have no further comment on this matter."
