At a press conference this morning, Mayor LaToya Cantrell renewed her claim that the recall effort to remove her from office is based on lies and misinformation.
As I challenged her comments and said she was wrong and was insulting the Black voters of New Orleans, CJ was motivated to speak out against Cantrell and went so far as to say that as a Black voter he was insulted by her comments, and said he agreed that Black voters are being used - but not by the Mayor’s opponents - by the Mayor herself.
CJ went on to say that the Black community in New Orleans is "not stupid" and can see right through what she is doing. CJ also reacted to Cantrell's "flipping the bird" at a float during Mardi Gras, and related it to how he was taught to act. His high school marching band had feces thrown at them during the time when parades went through the French Quarter.
CJ does not speak for or represent every Black voter in New Orleans - but he does speak for many of them, and he contradicts Cantrell's claim that she has overwhelming and unified support from the Black voters of this city.
