Washington DC (WBEN) - Political operative and WBEN contributor Michael Caputo has been tapped to head-up public affairs for the federal government's Health and Human Services division as Assistant Secretary of HHS for Public Affairs.

Caputo was sworn-in at the White House Tuesday and began his work Wednesday.

"I am honored to serve the President to the best of my abilities in this time of crisis and, in so doing, the American people.  And I'm going to miss East Aurora like oxygen", Caputo told WBEN late Wednesday.

"I knew I had to help", Caputo told WBEN as he takes control of messaging amidst the national battle to control the coronavirus pandemic.

Caputo will serve under Secretary Alex Azar who has reportedly been somewhat critical of the Trump administration's handling of the pandemic.
