The owner of a pickup truck tells WWL TV that criminals shot at least 20 bullet holes in his vehicle.
The person who asked to remain unidentified said it happened over the weekend near Joseph and Willow streets in Uptown New Orleans.
He said the shooters were pulling door handles, trying to steal items from cars and trucks in the neighborhood, but his theft deterrent backfired.
"These guys were coming down the street and going into vehicles, and when they got to mine, they started opening the door, and they got scared," he told the TV station.
The owner explained that he keeps a mannequin in the passenger seat, with a Michael Myers mask, but one of the criminals was so scared by it… that he opened fire.

"He jumped backward and started shooting, and then his two friends started shooting as well," the victim said. "It was like 30-something rounds."
Police say two other vehicles were also struck. Bullets also hit the side of the victim’s home.
"There were like 9 mm and .40-caliber casings all over the street and the sidewalk."
The victim said he is now reconsidering his strategy of using a mannequin dressed as the “Halloween” villain to keep burglars away from his vehicle.
"Definitely not a good idea in hindsight," he told WWL TV.
