Former WWL-TV chief meteorologist Carl Arredondo didn’t exactly choose to walk away from his chosen profession. A degenerative issue with his eyesight made up his mind for him. But, that struggle has given the former television mainstay a new appreciation for the pictures radio can paint.

“For people that can’t see, radio is a non-visual medium,” Arredondo told Scoot as WWL Radio celebrated its 100th anniversary, a fact Arredondo said he always tried to take into account when delivering his own weather forecasts over the radio airwaves, particularly when severe weather was on the way.

“I realized that if people were in their cars, they can’t see the TV set. They can’t see the radar picture. So describing where people can imagine and picture that in their heads is really important,” Arredondo said. “And I wanted to make sure they understood clearly… where the storms were going to go.”
