Cassidy: Mechanisms for vaccine distribution are in place

Pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer have fast tracked the development of a COVID-19 vaccine.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy says the pace at which the Trump Administration has push ahead on a vaccine development is an incredible achievement.

“We have already have taken a process that is normally is six to nine years in length of a new virus, developing a new vaccine, and have it approved and ready to go. We’ve done that in six months,” said Senator Cassidy.

Cassidy says he is confident pharmaceutical companies have what they need to quickly distribute a COVID-19 vaccine once it becomes available.

He says Pfizer will be the first with a vaccine and will handle the drug distribution on their own. McKesson will be the largest of three ‘middle men’ Cassidy says, who will also distribute the drug. In addition, each state already has in place, their own system of drug distribution.

“So all these mechanisms are in place with both the private companies and public agencies responsible of doing that,” said Cassidy.

Cassidy adds there will be ‘bumps in the road’ when distributing the vaccine but he remains confident in the process.
