Taysom Hill isn't ready to call it a career in the NFL, but he made something definitive this week: He will not be returning to the Saints.
The Saints legend issued a statement Wednesday evening via the team's social media account thanking the team, city and fanbase, making it clear that he won't be returning as he mulls his future.

I've taken time this offseason to think carefully about what comes next for my family and me. I still don't have a clear answer about what the future holds, but I know that returning to New Orleans is not in the cards. As training camp begins, I didn't want my silence to be misinterpreted, and as hard as it is to put into words, I wanted to express my gratitude.
"To the city of New Orleans: thank you. I had always heard "if you love New Orleans it will love you back." That could not have been more true. You exceeded every expectation I had of what it would be like to live and play in a city. Thank you to Mrs. benson, my teammates, and the entire Saints organization. What I will remember most are the relationships I built with so many people throughout the organization. You helped me be a better players, but more importantly, a better person. I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside so many great people, and I'm grateful for everything we experienced together.
I'm still working through what comes next, but I couldn't move forward without taking the time to say thank you. New Orlean, you will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we will always be cheering you on.

The statement comes as the Saints kick off training camp and with Hill's former No. 7 being worn by QB Hunter Dekkers. Hill has left the door open to potentially play elsewhere, though it's unclear if there have been any inroads on playing with a new team.
Saints GM Mickey Loomis also released a statement.
"Taysom's career to this point as a member of the Saints organization has been remarkable in all facets," Loomis said. "His intelligence, unique athletic ability, versatility, and unselfishness have benefited this team in many facets for the past 9 seasons. Additionally, he's been a great teammate, excellent leader, and mentor. We thank Taysom for all his great contributions, and we are positive that a day will come when all his accomplishments can be properly celebrated."
Hill was one of the ultimate diamond-in-the-rough finds for the Saints. The former BYU star was picked up on waivers from the Packers prior to the 2017 season. He went on to carve out one of the most unique roles in sports, accumulating 489 rushing attempts for 2,551 yards and 34 touchdowns, catching 110 passes for 1,034 yards and 11 touchdowns, and also completing 195 of 308 passing attempts for 2,426 yards and another 12 TDs. Hill started nine games at quarterback and went 7-2.
The end for Hill in New Orleans appeared in sight late in the 2025 season. Hill gave a tearful press conference following a Week 16 win over the Jets, where his final touch went for a record-setting receiving touchdown.
