A New Orleans man is facing multiple drugs charges after St. Bernard Parish sheriff's deputies say they found cocaine and fentanyl inside his body while booking him into jail.
Depuites arrested Alton Mark after they say they smelled cannabis in his car after stopping him for a burnt tail light near West Judge Perez and Perrin Drives on Thursday. Mark allegedly resisted and was uncooperative with deputies who tried to arrest him, but he was eventually arrested and taken into custody.
Deputies say Mark continued to be uncooperative after they got him to the jail. They then sent Mark to the Plaquemines Parish Jail, where officials there used a body scanner to see if Mark was hiding any drugs in his body cavities. The scanner, authorities say, detected foreign objects, which led the St. Bernard Parish deputies to get a warrant to conduct a cavity search.
Deputies say during that cavity search, they found two baggies of powder cocaine, one baggie of heroin, and one baggie of crack cocaine. All of those drugs, authorities say, were laced with fentanyl.
Mark remains in the St. Bernard Parish Jail on warrants out of Jefferson Parish.
