Happy birthday, America! We're 248 years old today as a nation, and there will be plenty of celebrations.

In New Orleans, the big annual celebration known as Go 4th on the River begins in the afternoon.

"Riverwalk is going to be celebrating Go 4th on the River in Spanish Plaza with a free music and cultural festival on the 4th, starting at 2 p.m.," Debbie Bresler with Go 4th on the River told WWL's Scoot on the Air.

She says there are also Go 4th celebrations on the Moonwalk off Jackson Square.

"You can expect to see a full lineup of local artists, food, beverage vendors, and more," she said.

The dueling fireworks show begins at 9 p.m.

At 5:30, St. Bernard Parish Salutes America at the Civic Center grounds. Their fireworks start at 9:30.

There are also celebrations tonight in Mandeville and Abita Springs.
