It’s a Sunday morning a family will find hard to forget.
A child at home in a bedroom playing with a lighter caught the room on fire, while his sibling slept in their bed just a few feet away.
Fire fighters responded to the blaze in just four minutes, but even so, a lot of damage was done.
The five year old who lit the fire, and two 12-year-old siblings sustained injuries in the blaze.
Four engine companies and more than a dozen personnel were on hand to fight the flames.
According to WWL-TV, it took 15 minutes to bring the fire under control.
All three children suffered smoke inhalation with the five year old also suffering a burn to the back of their hand.
The three were taken to Children’s Hospital for treatment.
St. Bernard Parish Fire Department Deputy Chief Michael Le Beau told WWLTV : "It's very important to teach children fire safety practices. We stress heavily that adults keep lighters and matches out of the reach of children."
LeBeau also went on to say, "Children want to learn. They see their parents lighting candles or setting a campfire — and they want to be young adults someday too."
There is no damage amount estimate or word if the home is still habitable.
