A Chalmette man is facing second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder charges in connection with the deadly shooting that happened at an Uptown park where a high school football team was practicing.
New Orleans police arrested Yuan Buggage, 24, on Wednesday at the Orleans Parish Prison, where authorities say he was being held for unrelated charges.
According to investigators, Buggage shot Tyvien Jirouard and wounded a 25-year-old coach who was assisting at the practice at Evans Playground on July 29. Jirouard died at a hospital. Police initially said they believed the coach may have been the intended target, but they have not confirmed that detail.
The case remains under investigation.
