Other than one tropical wave off of western Africa, there isn't much to be concerned about as we continue climbing to the peak of the season. But how much longer can that last?
Government forecasters say there is a 40 percent chance of La Niña making a return in the fall, towards the end of hurricane season.
LSU Health Climatologist Barry Keim says that could help tropical formation.
"La Niñas create very favorable conditions for hurricanes," explained Keim. "It eliminates wind shear which makes it a very conducive environment for hurricanes to form."
Keim said La Niña also shifts the jet stream more to the north, and cold fronts won't push as far south, but for us that could also mean a warmer winter.
