Over the weekend gunfire erupted inside the Dooky Chase restaurant after 19 year old Kareem Harris, who was fleeing an assailant, ran into the restaurant during its dinner service.
The gunman followed, killing him and wounding three people who were visiting New Orleans.
The chase family is now speaking out after the tragic incident. They released a statement expressing their gratitude during a difficult time.
"We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support for our guests, staff, family, and our historic restaurant during this difficult time," the Chase family said.
"Dooky Chase’s Restaurant has always been a place of gathering, culture, and care. We remain steadfast in our commitment to the people and community of New Orleans," the statement said.
The restaurant is closed until further notice per the Chase family. There is a $5,000 crime stoppers reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
