Christmas is over and now, the Christmas tree recycling begins. Every year after the Holiday Season parish sanitation workers collect thousands of dried Christmas trees to be used as wetland barriers in the fight against Louisiana coastal restoration.
Parish leaders want to remind residents when they can begin putting their Christmas trees curbside for pickup.
Trees must be bare, unflocked with all ornaments, tinsel, and decorations removed.
Here is when residents can put their trees out for curbside pick-up:
Jefferson Parish - Christmas trees will be collected curbside on Jan. 7, Jan. 8, and Jan. 9.
Residents in Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte should place trees curbside on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 6.
Orleans Parish - Residents are encouraged to recycle their Christmas trees by placing them curbside before 5 a.m. on their regularly scheduled second collection day that occurs between Jan. 7-9, for properties serviced by Richard's Disposal and Metro Service Group. Properties in the French Quarter or DDD, serviced by Empire Services, should place their trees at the location of their regular garbage collection, before 4 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7.
St. Tammany - Residents can bring their trees to the parish Fairgrounds at 1515 North Florida Street in Covington and The Old Levee Board Property at 61134 Military Road in Slidell, during regular open hours. Trees will be accepted until Jan. 29.
St. Charles - Trees will be picked up curbside on Jan. 8, 9 and 10.
