As the New Orleans City Government continues to face a $160 million budget shortfall for the rest of 2025, the Orleans Parish District Attorney's office is bracing for potential cuts. However, the district attorney says he's been in touch with city leaders to make sure those cuts don't impact criminal cases already in progress.

"I'm not sleeping very well, but I'm extremely confident," Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams said to WWL's Tommy Tucker. "I'm extremely confident in the mayor-elect and the city council to get us out of this hole for the rest of the year."

Williams says that confidence comes from his conversations with Mayor-elect Helena Moreno and the current city council.

"I believe that, based on my conversations with the mayor-elect and the current city council that we are going to be where we need to be to take care of those cases that are on the docket and to make sure we don't lose essential personnel in the process," Williams said. "They're looking at whatever it's going to take to get us there."

However, Williams says he understands his office will face cuts eventually.

"I also think they understand that there are areas we can trim and areas that we cannot trim in order to get through this crisis," Williams said.
