City of New Orleans prepares for severe weather

Parking restrictions lifted for neutral ground, sidewalk parking

New Orleans officials are closely monitoring the severe weather expected for Wednesday evening.

The New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is monitoring the threat of severe weather this evening and is encouraging residents to prepare for possible street flooding.


The city announced that parking restrictions have been lifted through 9 a.m. Thursday, allowing car owners to park their vehicles on neutral grounds and sidewalks, so long as they don't block streetcar tracks, intersections, or driveways.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch through 9 p.m., and has placed Orleans Parish in an enhanced risk area for severe weather. That means there is a high confidence that several storms could contain damaging winds, severe hail, tornadoes, and heavy rain.

Entergy is closely monitoring weather forecasts and preparing to respond to severe weather that may impact the metro area.
