For fifteen years, the rides at the former Six Flags amusement park have loomed over New Orleans. A committee of city officials today will hear ideas on redeveloping the site.
There have been sporadic efforts to reopen the amusement park off I-10 and I-510 in New Orleans East, but the theme park days may be gone for good.
"The highest and best use may have changed, and it's no longer as a theme park," said New Orleans real estate analyst Wade Ragas.
Ragas says it's location on the highway might make it useful as a site for warehouse distribution.
"Warehouse distribution is growing inside the U.S. right now, so there'd be a possibility of doing that," Ragas suggested.
Ragas said the site may also benefit from its proximity to NASA Michoud and the Port of New Orleans' planned new facility in St. Bernard Parish.
