Houma women charged with lying about being married to keep Medicaid
LBI

Police arrested a Houma woman after she allegedly tried to conceal the fact that she was married and failed to report her true family income to keep public healthcare benefits.

Juanita Trahan faces multiple criminal charges.

"LBI agents learned that in the period between January 2025 and February 2026, Trahan provided false information to LDH by concealing her marital status and true household income. As a result, Trahan defrauded the Medicaid program of more than $15,000," Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Louisiana Bureau of Investigation said in a news release.

The 64-year-old faces charges including government benefits fraud and injuring public records.

"Trahan was booked without incident at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison."

It is part of an on-going effort to crack down on illegal abuse of government benefits in Louisiana.
