Cold conditions sticking around through Wednesday

If you felt that chill stepping outside this morning, you weren’t imagining it and you’ll want to keep the jacket handy just a little longer.

LSU Health climatologist Barry Keim says the cold snap that settled over southern Louisiana will stick around for one more day, with Wednesday shaping up to be a near repeat of what we’re feeling now.

“Today is really day one of the cold,” Keim said. “Wednesday is basically a copy and paste, especially for those early morning hours.”

Keim says temperatures dipped into the freezing range across parts of the Northshore, while the Southshore saw a solid dose of winter air as well.

He urges residents to keep cold-weather precautions in place through Wednesday morning.

“On the Southshore, you want to think about the three P’s: people, pets, and plants,” Keim explained. “On the Northshore, especially farther from the lake, go ahead and add the fourth P: pipes.”

The upside? This blast of cold air won’t be sticking around for long. Keim says a noticeable warm-up is on the way as we head into the weekend.

“If this blustery cold isn’t your thing, just hang on,” he said. “The weekend looks much warmer.”

For now, that jacket still earns its spot but relief is just a few days away.
