Concert sales setting records at Smoothie King Center
USA TODAY Sports

The Smoothie King Center has been on a roll with concerts lately. Doug Thornton, Executive Vice President for ASM Global, the company that manages the arena and the Superdome for the state, says sales have been setting records.

"We've broken the record, and we're about to break the record for the most sales, gross proceeds from a concert in the history of the Smoothie King Center here in the next few days," said Thornton.

Drake's "It's All a Blur" tour is expected to break those records. That show is set for this June.

"This is a really, really big one for us," said Smoothie King Center General Manager Alan Freeman. "It is already the highest-grossing show in the history of the Smoothie King Center and it will be the highest-netting show for us."

Thornton said big-name acts are also bringing in fans from across the region.

"The concert tourism business is actually doing pretty well and the hotels are benefiting form that too, which ultimately is a benefit to the LSED," said Thornton.
